Biography
I am a multimedia artist, and my interests lie in expressive painting, symbolism, abstraction, and collage. I was born in 1975 in Potsdam, Germany. I am a member of the Creative Union of Artists of Russia.
My path to art wasn't straightforward, and I see this as its special value. Having earned a degree in psychology and special education, I established myself as a psychologist and business coach. I first consciously picked up a brush as an adult—in 2000, when I moved to the United States with my family. Over the course of several years, I mastered the fundamentals of drawing and painting at NOVA College.
Then came a return to Russia and a long break lasting almost a decade: I immersed myself completely in work as a graphic and web designer.
However, the need for self-expression proved stronger than any circumstances. In 2019, I returned to creativity, never to part with it again. This step became my personal manifesto: art requires no excuses for age or long breaks. It waits exactly as long as it needs to, and responds at the moment when inner readiness meets determination. Taking up painting at a mature age, after a long break, means approaching it with a depth of life experience and awareness that academic walls cannot provide. I didn't waste time—I accumulated material.
After graduating from the Quadro School of Contemporary Art under the guidance of artist Oksana Stogova at the Victoria Gallery (Samara), I actively joined the professional community. Since 2020, I have participated in over 50 group exhibitions at national and international levels. 2021 gave me my first solo exhibition at the Open Gallery and a duet exhibition at the Strelka Hall Gallery in Samara. In 2022, I won the K. Golovkin Prize in the Contemporary Art category. My works have found homes in private collections in Russia and abroad.
Since 2023, I have lived and worked in Moscow, continuing to prove with each new canvas that it is never too late to hear your true voice and make art your life's work.
Artist statement
I am a multidisciplinary artist, who loves to experiment. I don't like limitations in art. For me, style is not defined by the use of only one material or technique. I really like to experiment and this allows me to discover something new every time. This is how unusual projects and works are born.
The main directions of my work are abstraction and collage. In my paintings, I do not try to create a realistic interpretation of the surrounding world. I often turn to the topic of the inner world of man and his connection with the outside world and the universe. Any processes outside: natural phenomena, political and economic crises, news, etc. - all this affects our consciousness and our thoughts. Abstraction is the best way to convey the multifaceted world of feelings.
Color plays an important role in my work. Color affects our subconscious. Even a slight change in shade can completely change the semantic side and the overall emotional background of the picture.
Many of my works are symbolic and have a hidden meaning, which can be hidden behind the chosen color, symbol, and sometimes even a cipher. Despite this, I do not strive to ensure that the audience necessarily reveals my intention, but I prefer that the viewer make his own discoveries. My goal is to awaken the viewer's imagination so that, interacting with the artwork, he discovers something new.
My knowledge and experience is changing. New ideas and new inspiration come along with them. If a viewer stops for a moment to view and reflect on my piece, then I have succeeded in my work.
